The One About The Evaluation Mode

Howdy readers:)

This past week was crazy and such a good time. We were first able to develop an elevator pitch for a portion of the class in which my group presented our Redeveloped Chipotle app as well as a few blueprints for the design of our prototype. It was in this session that I would say we really made the most changes to our idea, having a conversation with the group who were able to interact with our prototype, ask them some questions and find out just what they were thinking about our more raw idea. In this conversation, we proposed other thoughts and aspects of the plan that we maybe hadn’t flushed out entirely, or garnered some new and big ideas which changed up our original idea big time. For example, during the first feedback session we realized that not everyone would be capable of using the Chipedals, such as our older customers, what could we do to ensure that these customers were satisfied with rewards points for their physical activity? Another issue was that the pedals are not intended to be a vigorous exercise, and how can we motivate people to really get out and get moving.

We decided to switch up the Bonuses section of the app from our initial design, to new specials and bonuses. It was honestly the perfect solution. I hadn’t put too much thought into what the bonus ideas should be so I just sort of put whatever I could think of initially. Now, however, we still have bonus days, which are just particular days that people can go in and earn extra points for using the chi pedals, but we’ve also included bonuses for visiting participating gym locations! This is a really exciting way for Chipotle to partner with a health and wellness institution like Planet Fitness or something, with a lot of other marketing and innovation potential in the future. This also allows Chipotle customers to earn rewards doing the physical activity that they love – like yoga, meditation, swimming or running!

The second evaluation process, in presenting to the class as well as the Friday EP session, taught us that we need to be more clear with our How Might We statement and also that we need to touch on certain aspects of the innovation that we are clear on, but that is not clear during the presentation. In evaluating our feedback forms, we realized that people were very concerned with whether the Chipedals were adjustable for heights. We as a team know that they will be designed this way, but we know for our next presentation to probably add this on as a label in our diagram. In general though, we got very good feedback. People seem excited about the idea because it is so different and maybe even a little bit crazy.

The most likely barrier to thwart our success I think will be either habits or not sexy. A lot of people love to take Chipotle to go, and we’re trying to switch that up with team multiplier bonuses so that eating in store at a Chipotle can be a more social activity, but it might not be realistic to assume that a good amount of people would change up this habit. Also the sexiness barrier might be difficult to get through. Eating and pedaling, no matter how leisurely might not be the best date idea, but I think amongst friends it would be a good time.

Let’s get pedaling!
